Top 20 Mizuki Nana songs *Updated 2011/09/12*

It's here finally! My top 20 Nana song list, done to commemorate my 77th entry in this blog! So now you know why I kept stalling this... ;) I have to say I've changed the order of these songs like a million times during the process of coming up with it, so most likely the exact order will keep on being alive and changing even now. xD

Enjoy the list and look forward to my entry on the Junketsu Paradox PV next!

20. DISCOTHEQUE

(3+1 versions there :P)

This song really makes me feel like it's the 70's again when I listen to this and I just wanna dance in funky seventies clothes. Also the cute voice Nana uses in this really makes me melt. Now I also really wonder why I did not put this in the list of songs that make me happy, as this should probably have been #1. I mean, this song really makes me all happy-happy and dancey-dancey and smiley-smiley. :D Secret night, sutekina!

19. NEXT ARCADIA

Zettai no DESTINY youkoso rakuen ni! The piano in this is insane! It is my most favorite piano melody ever - that's how insane it is. xD I like the interesting tech sound they've put on Nana's voice too, but I definitely prefer the live version when Nana is singing it just, well, as herself - it makes the song sound more powerful. The lyrics are quite fun, combining love and space in a very delightful way. Really no wonder why Nana enjoys singing this live immensely (judging by how happy she is).  Kimi ni fureru tame ni umareta Nana-chan. ;)

18. Mr. Bunny!

No matter what mood I am in, this song succeeds in making me happy. The song itself is already nice and up-beat and full of the world is a happy place -sort of vibe, but it definitely adds to the effect that this song brings up an image of Nana singing it all oh so happy in LIVE ACADEMY. And really, when you see that smiley Nana face in your mind you cannot help but smile yourself too. I really love walking outside in the sun while listening to this song. Makes me want to skip and smile at everyone who I pass. :)

17. Gimmick Game
[Click to listen]

This is not the type of song I'd normally like, I don't think, but Nana even makes this DDR-ish style sound good.  I think what really got me hooked on this song was the awesome Nana-English. I mean, I seriously love her English. I really really love it. I wouldn't really be surprised if I started talking English like that... okay maybe not haha. This also has this interesting effect on me, that whenever I hear it I just suddenly get filled with energy. :) Nee, give me, give me your heart. <3

16. Don't be long
[Click to listen]

This has a really pretty piano melody that kicks the song off and it really make me melt. Definitely one of my top favorite piano melodies in Nana songs. The song in the whole are also very beautiful. For some reason the words looking back send a shiver of delight down my back. I also really love the line negai wa kanau mono takumashiku natta, bokura no chikara de genjitsu wo koete, which means Wishes will come true, I've become strong, we'll overcome reality with our own power.

15. PROTECTION
[Click to listen]

I fell in love with this song right when I first heard it. There is just something really fascinating about the melody - the chorus melody just sucks you in and shakes you around until you're well stirred and quite happy. I also love it how the words just go so smoothly with the melody like it was the perfect combination. The lyrics are also really nice, as far as I can tell, I'm not going to go into them in detail here though as there is no translation available so I can't be sure I'm on the right track with them haha. P.S. Nana can pronounce protection just fine, I was mistaken. :o

14. Aoi Iro
[Not available]

I love this song as well. Hehehee, this song is just really lovely. It just makes you feel like there are many happy things to come. With that it kinda nudges you not to care about bad things that much and just to focus on getting back on your feet and reaching for those happy times again. Nana even says she sings happy songs just for me, best gift ever thank you Nana. I'd walk through school corridors in similar fashion while listening to this song as she does in the PV, but alas I think I might freak too many people out if I do that... Maybe not in Japan though - all the guys would be like "Zomg Nana!" and join me. x'D

13. Hime Murasaki
[Click to listen]

Definitely one of the most beautiful songs ever. This song creates quite the contradiction of emotions in me, as first of all it makes me happy because it is such an unbelievably beautiful song and I love listening to it, but at the same time it makes me very sad as the song with its message is quite sad. Not to mention the fact that it's strongly linked to the ending of Basilisk in my mind, which was just really really sad as well. Here is the translation of the lyrics if anyone wants to give them a look: [Lavender Princess]. I think this song is also a very good example of how talented a singer Nana is - just listen to those high long notes, like wow!

12. Maria & Joker
[Click to listen]

I love this song as it radiates a cabaret sort of atmosphere filled with gangsters. It also makes me kinda wish that they'd make a Japanese version of the movie Chicago and cast Nana in one of the lead roles. Plus it's really funny how the song is about someone named Maria considering that's my best friend's name, heh heh heh hee.. coincidence?! I think not. Okay fine, maybe it is... but still... Anyway, this is one of those songs that show really clearly how talented Nana is, considering how she can make an awesome song in so many different styles especially as usually when artists change their style they very easily just mess it up. Also on a side note, I must say that when Nana sings "oh... god..." all sensual-like it drives me wild.

11. Dancing in the velvet moon
[Click to listen]

This song just instantly makes me melt. It's just somehow so powerful  so majestic, that I just enter eternal bliss the moment it begins and it captivates me completely. The structure of the song is very special in my opinion, as it feels like a story with the changes of pace, melody and the bit with the clock ticking; it's like a world of its own. Also I have to say that the atmosphere of the song makes me think of vampires, it did even before I knew it was used as the ending song of the first season of Rosario + Vampire. It's nice to know my vampire feeling was spot on! ;) Also, very very nice choreograph! Odorimashou itazura na toki ni yudanete / Let us dance, lending ourselves to the time of mischief~~!
