Day 1 Report
The lines were so crazy that I was essentially queuing to the toilet till last minute, but I am so glad I made it in time since Nana was the opener (lol I would have cried if I missed her ngl). Man, opening with Exterminate gave me shivers and got me so excited! STARTING NOW! served as such a good follow up too since it got us involved with calls and all pumped up for the rest of the night. I feel really bad for Sumire having to come right after Nana though because that is an impossible act to follow and she even said it herself in her MC.
When Chihiro Yonekura showed up, I was firstly impressed by the genki energy she brought with her and then even more surprised when she sang 嵐の中で輝いて! Who'd have thought I'd ever get to hear the opening to one of my fav Gundam series, 08th MS Team, live!!
For me tonight, the break out artist was Aimi though, as I hadn't heard any of her music before but really liked her vibe and the sound of HELP and メリトクラシー, will def be checking out some of her other stuff later too. She felt way more comfortable on stage than a lot of the other younger talent we had seen so far tonight. Similarly, really liked the vibe of Kanoerana.
And then what a treat to see not only Yukarin but Hocchan on stage, separately and together! It felt like I got transported some 10-20 years to the past, to a time where I had less things to worry about than I do now.
One of the artists I was really looking forward to seeing tonight was Hiroko Moriguchi, since my partner is a big Gundam nerd. He was expecting 水の星へ愛をこめて and she delivered. From Masami Okui I was hoping for 輪舞-revolution and she also delivered. Another amazing performance was getting both 残酷な天使のテーゼ and 魂のルフラン from Yoko Takahashi. Her stage presence is grand and she's pretty funny too.
It was really cool when angela showed up on enclosed platforms on the walls of both sides of the venue and made their way to the stage from there. Also I couldn't stop laughing at Atsuko's outfit that included a big lion plushie wearing sunglasses attached to the back hanging from her shoulder. Angela's stage presence incredible and it was just fun to listen to Atsuko's and KATSU's banter and their songs kick so much ass too even when you aren't familiar with them. I was hoping for Shangri-La since that's the one I know but still had fun with the others.
Then it was time for collabs!!! Whoever came up with the idea of getting Hiroki Nanami to do T.M.Revolution's part and Shouta Aoi to do Nana's part in Preserved Roses seriously deserves a medal. What a fucking amazing collab! It was also a surprise to get another collaborated Nana song in COSMIC LOVE that was performed by Minori Inase and Miho Okasaki.
Also, we got another blast from the past when Yukarin and Nana collaborated on one song from each other. Nana was so chivalrous offering her hand and helping Yukarin down the stairs during Little Wish 〜lyrical step〜. At the end of Innocent starter, Nana offered her hand to Yukarin once more which Yukarin grabbed making a lot of sobbing happen in the audience around me and even more so when the two hugged after finishing the song. Bless.
I was a bit bummed that Megumi Hayashibara was not performing in KING SUPER LIVE this time, but I am glad we still got her song Give a Reason as the collaboration song that everyone sang today! What an amazing first day all in all.
Day 2 Report
Things were changed up A LOT for the second day and as tonight's opener we got Mamoru Miyano! He spent a good few mins just standing in pose on stage before kicking of EXCITING! which got a bunch of laughs from all of us. Also, was super happy to get that song since it's the only one I am really familiar with from him. It was also a treat to get to hear メリトクラシー from Aimi again.
I was not familiar with 七人のカリスマ声優 but they brought a lot of fun energy on the stage with their antics and songs so I had a great time with their performances of めちゃめちゃカリスマ and カリスマジャンボリー. I'm not really into virtual singers or vtubers or any of that, but I do admit that Hachi's song ビー玉 sounded pretty good and she seems to be a pretty good singer!
After performing their first song, saji gave us a pretty heart wrenching MC where they told us that they had planned to quit after their last tour as phatman's after school, but had received a phone call from Mishi-P then about singing for an anime finally and that's when saji was born five years ago. After that all kinds of things happened like the pandemic and they started to wonder if saji would be over too but here they still are! They then sang ツバサ which was the first saji gig they landed.
I haven't really listen to Sumire Uesaka at all, but do like her POP TEAM EPIC song so was happy to be blessed with that tonight! Then what a treat from Hiroko Moriguchi! Getting the opening for Samurai Troopers (or Ronin Warriors like I know them) サムライハート and ETERNAL WIND 〜ほほえみは光る風の中〜 even which is my partner's favorite Gundam song!!
Yoko Takahashi's performances were epic again as expected. Really love the outfits, how she's all white like an angel and her dancers have the colors of 02-Eva. Sniff, no Shangri-La from angela again tonight, but it was fun to do some dancing and BIG WAVE for them during KINGS.
Ahhhh so good getting three songs from Nana tonight!!! At first I was like who the hell is that when the DJ guy came on stage alone, but once he announced it was time for Nana Mizuki I got pumped up and knew right away that we'd be getting METANOIA. It was nice getting to hear ADRENALIZED as well, since it seems to be one of those songs that is better live.
Then it's time for collabs again! The big surprise tonight was Yui Horie dropping Scramble!!! During the first night I had just been reminiscing how I had really like Hocchan's character Eri in School Rumble so it was such a fun coincidence. Had been hoping for another epic Shouta Aoi and Hiroki Nanami collab with Kakumei Dualism but no such luck. At least I was blessed with Nana and Minose Inori doing a really epic collab of Glorious Break, which made me think I should really take the time to translate that at some point.
Then I almost screamed when the collab sung by everyone was angela's Shangri-La that I had been waiting for all these nights!!! Atsuko and KATSU got really emotional afterwards about getting everyone to sing their song that they started crying which caused a chain reaction and soon Nana was crying too. Man, my heart is so full and I am so happy for them.
Even though both nights were super long clocking at 5 hours each, it really was worth attending both nights and getting to see all of this. Hopefully won't have to wait six years again for the next KING SUPER LIVE!!!
