NANA MIZUKI LIVE EXPRESS 2019 Delivery 05 at Kyoto

I'm making a bit of an exception to my usual report flow and skipping the ones in my backlog (don't worry, I will return to finish those! I promise!) to write about this one, as it feels appropriate to write about this now in the wake of the really horrible and sad incident at Kyoto Animation.

#HelpKyoAniHeal

(If you would like to help KyoAni through this hard time, you can now make [a donation straight to the company]. Please help if you can! )

Before Concert
Before the concert officially started, Nana walked on stage alone in silence, took a moment to collect herself and talked about KyoAni. Through tears she expressed her deepest condolences for all the talented people who lost their lives just two days before. That such a tragedy could befall people, who just wanted to bring joy and smiles to everyone through their work is too heartbreaking. That Nana can also bring smiles to everyone as a seiyuu is only possible because of people like them who bring the anime alive. We then had a moment of silence for the victims together. Nana then vows to bring some happiness in the midst of this horror with today's concert and walks away.

Start movie time! We see various people doing their daily work at a warehouse, Nana included. She's then off to do some deliveries with an English speaking fellah to whom she replies either with awkward grunts or in Japanese. xD He says that she reminds him of this one awesome singer who also happens to have the same name as her and he turns on the radio to some special on Nana, and then....

01.WHAT YOU WANT
This works really great as an opener, damnnnnn. I had been wondering if I would be able to enjoy the live at all, since I had been feeling pretty sad for the past few days because of what happened and freshly so after Nana's heartfelt speech, but her presence and energy now when she returned on stage in full concert mode was so cathartic that I could allow myself to to be carried away into the moment.

02.Poison Lily
This was like the perfect follow up to WHAT YOU WANT. It's insane how well these two songs actually went together. Made me more hyped for this song again too, I should sing it in karaoke more...

MC1
Welcome to LIVE EXPRESS! Kyoto, it has been a long time! Nana says that the last time she was in Kyoto for a "proper" live was 16 years ago, though of course she did have the special Heian Jingu live in 2012, but even that was a long time ago by now! She does add that she has been here during private time though and that btw, Mishi-P is originally from Kyoto.

03.Bring it on!
The badassery continues! I find it kinda amusing that Nana had to get back the megaphone that she had out for the beginning of WHAT YOU WANT after already putting it away. xD

04.What cheer?
Hah, I just loooove everything about this song! Seeing the kinda silly dance in person feels like such a guilty pleasure somehow.

05.Heartbeat
Took me a moment, but I did remember the name of this song! I listen to it quite often actually so would have been pretty shameful if I didn't. Fitting end to this latter half of the beginning songs, as it served as a bit of a calm break after the intense openers.

Cherry Boys -showcase
For the CheriBo intros today, they all get task shown to them by Team Yo-Da, on the inside of the lid of a delivery box they open for each of them. Itaruvich of course needs to tell a pun. Kado-D needs to play a melody on a tiny violin that sounds like a tongue twister (and damn, it really did sound like one lol). Fire plays Miracle☆Flight on a toy sax. Cho-san does an impression of some person (didn't catch that properly). Tom-kun has to make game related sounds on his synth, so he makes the well-known sound effects of collecting coins and such from classic Mario. Yuta-pon has to say something to rouse the crowd - "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.... NANA!". Kenny just gets happy birthday wishes! He is turning 61, Kenny number..... 6 ONE! Ryotan gets to play a likkle trumpet, but it was over just when I was on the verge of recognizing what he played. D:

Outfit #2 - subtle rainbowy dress

06.REBELLION
Woops, I had kinda forgotten about this song... I should really start getting into the habit of buying music digitally shouldn't I.... orz

07.ETERNAL BLAZE
Already EtaBure?? So soon!! It feels wrong to have it be over and done with at this point already, but those feelings always get mixed with excitement for what is in store instead later (I've probably said this before but it never stops being true... so..).

MC2
Nana starts off by mentioning her wardrobe change, which of course cues the Mawatte! -calls. The Mou ikkai tonight is of course with Kenny, since he is the birthday boy. Kenny wants all the other in their 60's folks to give him a cheer, but it's all quiet in the hall. D: He concludes that it is just him. Nana goes on to say that since she has decided that she will still hold lives when she is 77 years old, well, Kenny really needs to ganbatte to still be doing his duty as her guitarist then. xD

From here the topic smoothly moves onto her age. Nana mentions how she is 3*coughcough* years old. As such, she decided that for the special corner of this summer's tour she would sing songs that she has yet to sing in a live in her 30's. So far it's been Cherish, White Lie, Refrain and Pierce. Tonight will be.....

08.Open Your Heart
Now here's a song I haven't listened to a very long time. It's always kinda weird to hear the current Nana singing these more cutesy songs from the past, since she has grown and become quite a different person. It kinda also served as a painful reminder that I missed out on Soredemo Kimi wa Omoi desu kara -again- when it popped up recently in a live (since this and that song are from the Innocent Starter single).

Nana says that she hasn't sang this song since like she was 24 or so. But no matter how long it's been, she can still dance in a rainbow dress! She gets a bit embarrassed thinking about her early singing days, but recently in her seiyuu work she has get to be Inorin's mama! Nana mama! xD

09.SUPER GENERATION
Whoa, all the songs that usually get reserved for encores or the latter half of a live are showing up really early this time!

10.Take a chance
I was never that into this song before, but now after years and years of live going and superbly enjoying singing songs together with Nana I have to say that this grew on me a LOT tonight with all the nice calls you can do for it.

Team Yo-Da -showcase
For their intros, Team Yo-Da is tasked with dancing a certain thing related to Kyoto. Don't remember Anna's thing too clearly, maybe it was Gion. Yumeko had to dance Nintendo, Mayu a maiko-san and Shizuka one of the Kyoto matsuris.

Outfit #3 - delivery lady

11.SUMMER PIRATES
I haven't been a fan of the recent dance songs like Please Download and Hungry Hungry, so my expectations for this one weren't too high either, but.... HOLY SHIT - I LOVE IT!! This song really screams summer. I was thinking it reminds me of the 90's somehow, but when I started thinking about it maybe that was not quite right. More like, it just gave me a nostalgic feeling back to the days I used to listen to Koda Kumi's "To be one" a lot I think. xD

12.HIGH-STEPPER
Nostalgia continues.... can't believe I am finally getting HIGH-STEPPER again after all these years. It blew me away back in the first Nana concert I went to and now, in the midst of shaking from excitement I whisper to @flying_mug "I used to call this part the Bitch Walk".

MC3
Nana talks about SUMMER PIRATES and how it is a bit different from the other recent dance songs like Hungry Hungry. This time she wanted to make a more straightforward "someone giving you a push on the back" kind of song. SUMMER PIRATES is also a song for Nakau though like Hungry Hungry before it and it should start playing in the Nakaus across the country around now. Nana then reminisces about how last time she had to do the CM for Nakau without her bangs down and showing her bare forehead and how deeply embarrassing it was. She then moves onto talk about the new dish she is promoting and goes through all the different flavors in it like she is giving it a proper marketing spiel. She then asks if anyone has had a chance to try it yet and of course people have and she was like wow, that was fast.

13.Take a shot
Even more nostalgia!! Will it ever end?? xD The first song I ever listened toooooooo, wah. I'm getting so many feels with all of these in a row.

After Take a shot finishes, Nana tells us to take out our towels if we have them because it is time for....

14.PROTECTION
What, even PROTECTION (also one of my first ever favorites lol) as towel song tonight??  This feels like an early xmas, the song gifts just keep coming!!

Delivery Nana -insert movie
Nana is going around making deliveries and bringing smiles to customers with the English speaking fellah. Once back in the car, some suspicious car off-roads them. Oh snappity snap! The fellah is out cold and the baddies come look through all the scattered delivery boxes for something they were after. One of the boxes has some glowing thing in it which blows them away when they open it. Nana is up and about, summoning the glowing thing as a bracelet on her wrist which gives her magical powers and she, in turn, starts to glow and sends the bad guys packing. She then easily lifts their van and puts it back on the road and for the hell of it, transforms it into a big big truck that reminds me a bit of Optimus Prime. xD She then helps her friend wake up and he is like HOLY SHIT THIS TRUCK IS HUGE and off they goooo! (lol what just happened?? xD)

Outfit #4 - ??don't remember this, but I liked it??

15.METANOIA
I hadn't really gotten into this song yet, but damn am I sold now. I was pretty bummed with myself, since there were a lot of calls but I couldn't really do any of them since I hadn't dedicated time to this song yet..... but that just means that I need to make amends a thousandfold in the next LIVE EXPRESS I go to.

16.TESTAMENT
The Symphogear corner continues! Makes me miss my good friend who moved out of the country a while ago, since she's gotten really smitten with this song in particular (yep, got her into Nana somehow right before she left even though for once I wasn't even trying!).

MC4
Nana talks about the METANOIA release and asks who has already bought it. Symphogear XV is airing now! She says that Tsubasa has become so "erai". She recorded another character song for her the other day, which is sure to make everyone cry she guarantees us. She also mentions how she is singing METANOIA in Music Fair and doing a duet with an enka legend, Tendou-san. Nana says that Tendou-san was one of the judges in a karaoke competition thing she took part in when she was much younger and to think that they are singing together now! Okay, it's time to move to atsui songs from here....

17.UNBREAKABLE
Oh man, even this made me reminiscence about how much my life has changed from when this came out and I was listening to it to help myself get through night after night of distributing newspapers.

18.suddenly~Meguriaete~
This felt really unexpected to me for some reason (yeah I haven't really looked at LIVE EXPRESS set lists before coming here tonight, so had no idea what was waiting for me)! It was also somehow really refreshing to hear this at this point, can't really explain why that was either.

19.Astrogation
Ooooh! Since I've been in such a nostalgic mood tonight thanks to all the songs that have already popped up on the set list, for the first time in a long while even Astrogation got me reminiscing about university and how I used to hide something Nana related in all my game design projects, one of which was getting my classmate to make a rearrangement of Astrogation for a game about an alligator astronaut called Astrogator. You can call me queen of lame. xD

MC5
It's time for the last song. Nana says she wants to convey her feelings for everyone and asks us to take our phones out and wave around the phone flashlights for her for this song.

20.Searchlight
It's nice to have a new gimmick for a Nana concert and use the phone flashlight instead of a penlight, but it goes against my personal principle of not touching my phone until the concert is fully over. Conflicted feelings.. orz But in the end, what Nana wants, wins!

Encore:
Naaa-naaaaaa! Otsukare-sama to the guy who was screaming so diligently even though his voice was disappearing little by little.

Outfit #5 - encore

21.No Limit
Hmmm, all the Dog Days songs after SCARLET KNIGHT make for good summery encore songs huh (not counting SCARLET KNIGHT because it OWNS no matter what timing). For the duration of this song, Nana goes around the arena on a fork lift. xD

MC6
Thanks for calling her back! Shassuuuuuu!! Boys! Girls! CheriBo! Staff-san! Smile-gang has been on air so long that they are already into the 900's with episodes. So far this year Nana has already gathered two batsus for herself and it's about time to see how it will go with pro baseball.

22.Juujika no Spread
Wow, another surprise from my first Nana concert! I used to listen to this song so much. It's of course still on my usual playlist, but since I keep adding more and more songs when Nana releases them, I don't hear this as often as I used to 8 or so years ago, so yep, extreme nostalgia feels continue.

23.Born Free
I wasn't too convinced with this when I first heard it and I was still remaining skeptical.... but at least hearing it now inspired me to give it a a chance (and yep, now after looping it for a week I have grown quite fond of it, as expected of Yoshida Takumi-san). Doing the wow-wows for Nana is always nice though!

MC7
Nana tells us that the next song really is the last one for today, so everyone, let's sing together!

24.POWER GATE
Ohohoho! Should have seen this coming! Though having this as final final song will just make me think of LIVE GATE now. xD Still, it never stops being a magical sing together song!

During the final bows and thank yous, CheriBos got inspired to do something new and formed a C and a B with their bodies and Team Yo-Da of course followed suit. Nana too. It took me a while to realize she was doing an M and then a 7 since I was expecting an N. xD Anyways, thank you for tonight!!

-----

I haven't really gotten excited in a live for quite some time (had a tough year last year, which was probably the main reason), but tonight I finally felt the joy and happiness of music return to me. Thank you Nana, looking forward to the next one next month!!

  1. Nana......T.T

The setlist for this live is so amazing! I'm just sad that she sang Soredemo while in her 30s, so there is probably no chance of that song popping up in this tour

Right?! I feel like it's the best setlist we've gotten in a while! And yeah... there's definitely no chance of Soredemo popping up in this tour. orz I get depressed just thinking about how many years I need to wait till it resurfaces again from the archives...
