Well, since I am still kinda in too shock about getting to meet Nana last weekend to write about it (I'll get a move on today or tomorrow orz), I'll release the translation of FATE in the meanwhile. I got the privilege to hear her sing it live last weekend too, so I was in the mood to do some translating right after. I think it is one of the most beautiful Nana love songs to date and every time I listen to it, it makes emotions bubble up from somewhere deep inside me. Thank you Nana for writing this song~

I don't know much about in what terms Nana is with her sister, but I have wondered if there is/has been some bitterness between them with them both being singers but with Nana probably forever overshadowing Mika. The thought of them realizing how important they are to each other (like in FATE) is a really heartwarming idea. I like the thought. :3
DeleteHer sister was often credited in early issues of Nana's fanclub magazine for art and as staff, and also for some of her earlier live DVDs, also for art and staff. Nana also mentioned her in Basidisc, a promotional video supplement for the Basilisk anime. She said that her sister borrowed her money for a specific dress during an early stage of her career, because she made more money with side jobs than Nana did. Perhaps Nana hardly mentiones her anymore because her sister doesn't want to be regarded as Nana's little sister forever. That happends often when relatives work in the same field and only one of them is famous.
DeleteHaha, I know there's always the possibility that Nana just somehow came up with this lyrics randomly, but everything about it just seems to me like she was speaking to her sister through the song. In the first verse, it's as if Nana is remembering their younger days together and one day, she had to leave for Tokyo and hence "couldn't prevent a goodbye". Then she became very busy with her career later on and became more distant from her sister, perhaps? and this line 'You said "What if you became a little bit more honest?"' reminds me that I read somewhere that Nana used to be jealous of her sister's carefree nature and could always speak her mind, but Nana couldn't do that. Ah, there's just so much in this song that gives me that impression! Anyway, thank you for translating this beautiful song! :)
DeleteI am taking this all from a different perspective than everyone. Perhaps in a way more direct to RJ, I found this song to be specific to us. More in a way, Nana-san wants us to remember for whom we are doing or living *if you can take it* ... I think in every word, it has said what's between us en how we should be happy and have pleasure in what we do. The more I listen to it, I keep only thinking of youu.
